(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)Shea Patterson has not been named the Michigan starting quarterback yet. However, it is widely assumed that he will be under center when the Wolverines head to Notre Dame.Patterson is a former five-star recruit, and through his first two college season, impressed while at Ole Miss. After Hugh Freeze’s ouster from the school, he elected to move on, and was granted immediate eligibility, due to the scandal.Quarterback has been a problem spot for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. In year one, Iowa transfer Jake Rudock was a solid performer at the position, but the team hasn’t had a consistent presence at the spot in the last two years.Patterson could very well change that. So far, he’s getting solid reviews from Michigan’s staff.Michigan’s Don Brown, one of the best defensive cooridnators in the country, had plenty of good things to say about Shea Patterson. From the Detroit Free Press:“(The experience) piece gets overlooked,” defensive coordinator Don Brown said with regard to Patterson. “It’s ‘oh, this guy’s a good player, let him play (and then it’s) well why isn’t he playing good?’ Why don’t you let him have a chance to breathe and then let him play, how about that? Sometimes I think we forget about that. But (Patterson) has played, he’s played a lot.“He’s been in the soup at high levels so I think that gives him general respect. But the way he goes about doing it, he’s certainly earned my respect. He came in and talked coverage today with the boss. So, he’s just a great kid and I’m excited to see him play against other people.”[…]“He’s a veteran guy, a confident guy. He has the ability to do things with his legs and he’s got a quick release,” Brown said. “I just like the guy. I just like him. He’s a good guy, confident guy as I said and a very good athlete. So when you couple the ability to throw and maneuver and move around as an athlete (it’s a good thing.”Patterson is currently vying for the job with redshirt sophomore Brandon Peters, who played for the Wolverines last year, and redshirt freshman Dylan McCaffrey. He’s played 10 total college games between 2016 and 2017, throwing for 3,139 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, and adding 153 rushing yards and one score on the ground.[Detroit Free Press]last_img read more
