One of the box’s windows was shattered. The security guards immediately called the police, who tried to take fingerprints from some of the projectiles. The attack came amid a dispute between Somchai and Prime Minister Yingluck’s supporters about the caption of the photo of Yingluck that he posted on 30 April, the day after she addressed a democracy forum in Ulan Bator. The caption said: “Prostitutes are not evil. They just sell their bodies. But an evil woman sells the nation.” The prime minister has filed a defamation suit over the caption.Metropolitan police chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang said Thai Rath’s assailants may have carried out the attack at the height of the current controversy so that suspicion would fall on the government’s supporters. The prime minister’s party, Pheu Thai, blamed the attack on the “Red Shirt” supporters of Thaksin, who was ousted as prime minister in 2006. Several days before the attack, Red Shirts demonstrated outside the newspaper to demand that the cartoonist be punished. Pheu Thai has condemned the attack and has promised a thorough police investigation. On 5 May, information technology and communications minister Anudith Nakornthap threatened websites publishing critical comments about the prime minister with closure and with prosecutions that could result in sentences of up to seven years in prison for those responsible. But he backed down two days later, on 7 May, saying that only a criminal court could decide to close a website and that using the Internet to express an opinion could not be prohibited. Hillary Clinton: ‘Religious beliefs’ against abortion ‘have to be changed’

first_imgLifeSite News 24 April 2015Speaking to an influential gathering in New York City on Thursday, Hillary Clinton declared that “religious beliefs” that condemn “reproductive rights,” “have to be changed.”“Yes, we’ve cut the maternal mortality rate in half, but far too many women are still denied critical access to reproductive health,” Hillary told the Women in the World Summit yesterday.Liberal politicians use “reproductive health” as a blanket term that includes abortion. However, Hillary’s reference echoes National Organization for Women (NOW) president Terry O’Neill’s op-ed from last May that called abortion “an essential measure to prevent the heartbreak of infant mortality.”The Democratic presidential hopeful added that governments should throw the power of state coercion behind the effort to redefine traditional religious dogmas.“Rights have to exist in practice, not just on paper. Laws have to be backed up with resources, and political will,” she said. “Deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases have to be changed.”The line received rousing applause at the feminist conference, hosted in Manhattan’s Lincoln Center by Tina Brown. She also cited religious-based objections to the HHS mandate, funding Planned Parenthood, and the homosexual and transgender agenda as obstacles that the government must defeat.https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/hillary-clinton-religious-beliefs-that-oppose-abortion-have-to-be-changedlast_img read more

Luke Shaw wants embattled Premier League season cancelled

first_img Paul Pogba could not agree less with the importance of fans to the game insisting that they form part of the fun and part of the competition “I think the sport is for fans really, do you know what I mean? “I think if you don’t have fans, and you don’t play in front of fans, it just doesn’t feel right. “Especially on matchday the fans are always amazing and always help the team. “Whether it’s home or even away, our fans are always brilliant and I feel like they’re always there with us,”he enthused Although Shaw is sure to get a lot of pebbles thrown his way following his call, he is however not the only one calling for the cancellation.  Former Liverpool ace Joe Cole is equally saying it is either we are ready to play and conclude the league or axe it period. Read AlsoPremier League season suspended indefinitely after crisis talks “Obviously we need to finish the season as soon as we can, if we’re allowed to. That would be ideal,” former Liverpool man Joe Cole told the Daily Star. “If we can’t finish the season, and it’s getting close to the following season, the only situation which I think is fair is to just restart it. Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw wants the Premier League season to be scrapped and started from scratch if future games cannot be played due to the coronavirus pandemic. Table toppers Liverpool though standing 25 points clear of closest contenders Manchester city, they have 9 matches pending to properly seal victory. Football remains suspended indefinitely due to the Covid-19 virus, which continues to wreak havoc across the globe. We either finish the season or start from the scratch says Luke shaw While many have been cautious calling for outright cancellation and hoping that the coast will be clear to round up the season, Shaw thinks the waiting game is stretching rather too long and pointing to the possibility of not finishing the matches. “Scrap it and start again. Start it again, yeah,” he said during a Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competition. The Daily Mirror understand Premier League chiefs are in talks with the government over potentially playing games behind closed doors in June. But that is not a good one as well according to Shaw who insists it has to be in front of supporters if it is to be counted as real competition. “Fans are so important. You realise it even more [now],” he added.center_img Loading… last_img read more

Got Your Back – To School

first_imgErin Croddick Avery, D.Min., is a certified educational planner and founder of Avery Educational Resources, LLC., in Fair Haven, an independent educational consulting practice that specializes in counseling students and their families throughout the college and boarding school search and application process. By Erin Croddick AveryWe have all read the research that when starting a new routine, it takes 21 days to form a new habit. For this back to school challenge, take a highlighter to your wall calendar for the first three weeks of September and do the following:Set up individual, reduced distractions study spaces for each of your learners. Buy a simple spinning caddie, available at places such as Pottery Barn Kids in the Grove West or Lairds in Fair Haven, and stock it with highlighters, pens, pencils, mechanical pencils for left-handers (they don’t smear), firm sticky tabs, erasers, sticky no tes, Mindbinders (the best flipping flashcard) and any other colorful tools that incentivize students to have fun studying.Study Hall 101. Reduced distractions – visual and sounds – is critical. According to Philosopher Bernard Lonergan, the brain responds to relaxation and that this is an indisputable condition for eureka moments. So, create a space that is work-focused but Zen at the same time.Set a kitchen timer at the same time each night for three weeks – Ask students to work for 30 minutes without asking for help. This is crucial as it will build their resilience and grit in working out obstacles on their own. For older students, reset the timer up to four times but no more in those first two weeks. And if they have completed assigned work, have them pick a book and read. It’s the discipline of showing up each day and the positive habit-forming behavior that we’re after!Find out what they love. For young learners, it may be dinosaurs, Disney, Ever After High, Star Wars, etc. Print from Google images, cut them in circles the size of a half-dollar and photocopy them onto a blank page in a path, like a board game. Get a bowl of plastic gems (think Michaels or Hobby Lobby) and for each page read or math problem solved, give him or her a gem in a bowl to place on the board. They will work twice as long with this incentive!Mark your textbook page. Students lose valuable minutes searching for their assignment. Sturdy sticky tabs get you to work instantly and can be moved ahead each day by peeling and resticking.Design a technology charging station in the kitchen. Students who take phones and devices to their bedrooms get much less sleep and sleep is vital for learning in teens and growing children. Studies reveal that taking a nap after learning an intricate concept boost retention significantly! Screen light counteracts the serotonin secretions, inhibiting one’s ability to “settle down.” So check in the devices at 8 p.m. Make your home a sanctuary.Chinese medicine advocates a proactive approach to wellness. During the changing of the seasons, wise parents slice ginger into their children’s water to help keep sore throats at bay.Blood sugar must be stabilized throughout the morning at school for optimal learning.  So think protein for breakfast, not cereal or bagels. Pumpkin seeds are superb brain food. Also, try Buckwheat groats with almond milk and honey. (P.S. It’s not a grain.)Have students make a chart with a clear goal.  They can color in the time spent each day in their study space (like the ones that measure fundraiser donations and are colored in as donations increase.) At the end of the Three-Week Got Your Back To School challenge, evaluate and celebrate if the student has reached his/her goal.Time for a celebration?  How about a sit-down to a family meal. Students who eat with their families multiple times per week report having better grades than students who do not. Food for thought!last_img read more

Rajasthan gets assurance from Punjab

first_imgRajasthan has received an assurance from Punjab for relining of the Ferozepur feeder for the Indira Gandhi Canal system to increase its water carrying capacity to 11,192 cusecs, as per its original design. The Punjab government will shortly submit a detailed project report to the Central Water Commission in this respect and both the States would bear the expenditure proportionately.Capacity reduced Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who met his Punjab counterpart Amarinder Singh on the sidelines of the regional conference on drug menace in Chandigarh on Friday, said the feeder’s capacity had reduced to almost 10,000 cusecs due to damage caused to the lining at several places. “As a result, both the Ganga Canal and the Bhakhra Canal in Rajasthan are getting lesser water,” he said, adding that the canal water issues with the neighbouring State would be resolved amicably. The Indira Gandhi Canal, which is fed by rivers from Punjab, is also getting contaminated water from Harike Barrage, which Mr. Gehlot said was adversely affecting the health of a large population in several districts. He asked the Punjab government to ensure quality of water in accordance with the National Green Tribunal’s directions. Both Rajasthan and Punjab are ruled by the Congress. Punjab is reportedly considering setting up three common effluent treatment plants at Buddha Nullah, which is a water feeder for Harike. Mr. Gehlot also sought steps to increase the capacity of the head regulator of Indira Gandhi feeder at Harike Barrage from 15,000 cusecs to 18,500 cusecs. The engineers of both the States will conduct a joint inspection to work out an action plan for this purpose.According to the official sources here, Capt. Amarinder assured Mr. Gehlot of affirmative action for increasing the head regulator’’ capacity, saying that it would stop the flow of water into Pakistan during the rainy season. This additional water would be available for irrigation to farmers in Rajasthan.last_img read more

Barrett #16 of the Ohio State Buckeyes throws a passl during the game against the Indiana Hoosiers at Memorial Stadium on August 31, 2017 in Bloomington, Indiana. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)Big Ten Media Days are currently taking place in Chicago this week, meaning the offseason is finally over, the preseason is here and the season is soon to come. In anticipation of the start of the 2016 season, the Big Ten Network has ranked the top 100 players in the conference. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, Michigan State has the most players in the top 100. There are 15 Spartans in BTN’s top 100, one more than Ohio State. Here are the teams with the most players in the top 100:Michigan State – 15Ohio State – 14Michigan, Nebraska – 10 Penn State, Iowa – 9The top 10 players in the conference:10. TE Jake Butt, Michigan. Arguably the best tight end in the nation, Butt hauled in 51 passes for 654 yards and three scores last season, and should be even better for an exceptional Wolverine offense. 9. OL Dan Feeney, Indiana. This guy is a powerful force at the point of attack, he plays with a defensive mentality, and he’s a flat-out nasty. 8. LB Anthony Walker, Northwestern. Only three players in the nation had more tackles for loss (20.5) a season ago, and only two players in the Big Ten registered more tackles (122). 7. LB Raekwon McMillan, Ohio State. A likely future All-American and first-round selection, McMillan is a classic linebacker who can play with power and speed. 6. RB Saquon Barkley, Penn State. A freakish athlete, Barkley set the Penn State freshman rushing record (1,076 yards), all while missing two games and receiving one carry in the season opener. 5. DB Jourdan Lewis, Michigan. He defended 20 passes last season to emerge as one of the nation’s premier shutdown corners. 4. DT Malik McDowell, Michigan State. A dominant interior lineman with a knack for making huge plays, McDowell will anchor what should be an outstanding Michigan State defense in 2016. 3. DB/LBJabrill Peppers, Michigan. Cornerback. Safety. Linebacker. Even receiver. It doesn’t matter where No. 5 lines up, he’s a supreme talent who’s as “much-watch” as anyone in the nation. 2. DB Desmond King, Iowa. The reigning Jim Thorpe winner set a school record with eight interceptions last season, and enters the season as the nation’s top defensive back. 1. QB J.T. Barrett, Ohio State. He will be looking to recapture his 2014 form, when he was the top signal-caller in the Big Ten as a redshirt freshman. Barrett is a deadly combination of athletic ability and savvy who is the perfect fit for this offense. And he’s a great leader. You can view the full rankings here.[BTN]last_img read more
